86 long-serving govt. employees bestowed National Award for Public Service

Eighty-six long-serving government employees were bestowed the National Award for Public Service on Thursday night.

The awards were presented to the recipient by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during a special ceremony held at Dharubaaruge. The ceremony was also attended by First Lady Fazna Ahmed and Vice President Faisal Naseem in addition to cabinet ministers and parliamentarians.

National Award for Public Service, introduced in 2021, is the most prestigious award conferred by the President on individuals who have been serving the nation for over 35 years and are observed as diligent and steadfast employees who have contributed towards the development of their respective fields.

The most notable recipient of tonight’s awards was Sobira Waheed, who received the National Award for Public Service for her more than 50 years of service at the Malé Water and Sewerage Company Limited. (MWSC).

Recipients of the awards were selected by the National Awards Committee. Of the 86 recipients who were honored tonight, 25 were women. They included civil servants who had served in various capacities in government offices and institutions.

Speaking at the function, President Solih extended his congratulations to the recipients.

On behalf of the recipients, Hawwa Nasiha, Chief Librarian at the National Library, addressed the ceremony.
