Fuvah Mulah runs out of petrol

Petrol stock in Fuvah Mulah, the southern island-atoll, dried up today, and the whole island was forced onto feet, as transport vehicles had to be parked due to unavailability of gasoline.

Petrol is being sold by two shops in Fuvah Mulah, Free Guyz Shop and Smart Fuel, and both shops ran out of their stock, and supply was interrupted as the regular oil tanker could not harbor at Fuvah Mulah today due to bad weather.

Free Guyz, the only supplier of petrol to Fuvah Mulah told Sun today that a tanker went to the island today with petrol, although it was forced to run back to G. Dh. atoll by gusts of strong wind brought by bad weather.

Many from the one-island atoll in the Maldives have complained about the insufficiency of her harbor, which was built around a decade ago, and has not been kept in proper maintenance. “Due to the harbor being unsuitable for anchoring the tanker, what we usually do is to anchor it out of the harbor, and land the oil supply by using a small boat. However, due to bad weather, this couldn’t be done today, and the oil tanker has gone to G. Dh. atoll to wait it out”, said a man from Free Guys Shop.

Fuvah Mulah, with a population of 11,000 people, is one of the three largest islands in the country, and one of the three most populated islands as well, with only Malé and Hithadhoo in Addu City counting more inhabitants. Mr. Ahmed Najaah, Councilor for the Dadimagu Local Council said today that 5000 people had to walk their errands today, as their vehicles had simply to be parked due to lack of gasoline.
