The Maldives Police Service has said that the expatriate man found dead inside a private residence room in Malé would undergo post-mortem examinations. The police said that doctors had advised for an autopsy in order to ascertain the real cause of death.
The police also said that doctors estimated the man to have been dead for about two to three days before his body was found yesterday around sunset.
Doctors have told that an outward observation could not tell anything significant about the death, as the body was substantially decayed.
The police suspect the man to be a citizen of Sri Lank, based on a document found in one of his pockets, although the identity and nationality of the man have not yet been ascertained. The police also said that they had not been able to make sure if he died a natural death or was killed.
The police found the dead body yesterday evening, about 6:30, when they searched Meezan, a private residence in Galolhu Ward, Malé, following a report by neighbors about a suspicious smell. The police are now conducting investigations into the matter.
The dead body is currently in a mortuary.
