Hanimaadhoo Council President: More development brought in four years than 40 years

HDh. Hanimaadhoo Council President Abdul Sattar Hassan, on Thursday night, remarked that more development was brought by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih in four years compared to 40 years.

In an interview to Sun following the inauguration of Hanimaadhoo International Airport development project – Sattar described development of Hanimaadhoo Airport as an international airport a dream of Hanimaadhoo residents as well as residents of neighboring islands in the atoll.

He underscored that multitude of job opportunities that will be created once the airport is brought into operation following completion of the project. He noted that the project would also pave way increased resorts and city hotels in northern Maldives – effectively boosting tourism in the region.

“The airport will also allow direct cargo import to north which would boost businesses in northern islands and enhance the economy,” he added.

Speaking further, Sattar said looking across the whole country, development projects have not eluded any island. He expressed confidence that President Solih would receive 70 percent of votes from Hanimaadhoo.

Noting that Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) upcoming presidential primary scheduled for January 28th as a vote to whether ensure the upward trend of development witnessed in the Maldives – Sattar, in his capacity as party members, urged other members to vote for President Solih.

“President Solih, during his term, has brought peace and development to the Maldives and its people. Such leaders would always be loved and supported by citizens. In this regard, President Solih is an individual who has garnered such love and support,” he said.

Sattar said that President Solih carried out development projects without discrimination – whether a small or a big island, whether children, a youth or an elderly.

He remarked that it was President Solih who brought the most apparent and non-apparent development across the Maldives, adding it is President Solih who would continue on this trajectory.

The historic Hanimaadhoo airport project is the largest and most significant infrastructure project initiated outside the Malé region. Funded through an MVR2.1 billion loan from the Exim Bank of India, the project is contracted to India-based firm JMC Projects.
