Mayor: Will take approximately a month to arrange permanent accommodation for staff

Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Tuesday, has stated that approximately one month will be required to arrange permanent accommodation for the Male’ City Council staff residing at the accommodation block which was destroyed in the blaze which spread from Neelan Fihaara on Monday morning.

Mayor Muizzu said that the staff will reside at Farukolhufushi until permanent accommodation is arranged for them.

“We are targeting to make a permanent set up to accommodate our staff inside our area, within our control, in a month’s duration,” he said.

He said that efforts to arrange permanent accommodation for the staff will commence today.

“We will move the staff as soon as the place is ready,” he added.

Mayor Muizzu also noted that two double-decker buses from Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) will be used for the transportation of the staff from Farukolhufushi to Male' in the meanwhile. 

The fire broke out at the Neelan Fihaara at approximately 06:00 am Monday. The fire was controlled through joint effort of the police, MNDF and civilians at approximately 07:30 am.

The fire affected total 202 city council workers.

They were initially taken to a makeshift relief center set up at the Imaadhuddin School.
