Progressive Party of Maldives’ (PPM) leader, former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, on Sunday, has pledged that 5,000 new job opportunities will be created in the Addu City in the first three years of a PPM administration.

Speaking during an event held at Addu City’s Feydhoo district as part of his ongoing tour of the city – Yameen said that the new job opportunities will be created in Addu City under the economic projects that will be initiated at the city.

“If elected, the first priority will be to settle the debts drawn by the current administrations. To repay the loans withdrawn from India. The next priority after this will be to improve the situation of the youth. To ensure a way for the youths to earn. Efforts are already under, in this regard,” he had said.

Yameen went on to emphasize that 5,000 job opportunities can be easily created in Addu City within the first three years even after settling the debts.

Whilst Yameen has alleged that the current administration failed to fulfill the pledges made to the people of Addu City, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih visited the city in 2018, as the representative candidate from Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) – meeting with its people, and making huge pledges.

They include commencing daily flights to Gan International Airport from the five continents, the development of tourism in Addu City, including the development of 8,000 tourist beds, alongside 8,000 job opportunities.
