VP Faisal flies to Egypt to attend COP27

Vice President Faisal Naseem, on Friday, flew to Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, to attend the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP27).

He is accompanied on the trip by a high-level delegation of government officials.

In this visit, VP Faisal will be delivering the national statement at COP27, and is also scheduled participate in several high-level roundtable discussions.

The President’s Office described COP27 as an opportunity for the Maldives to address the country's aims for sustainable development on a global level. They noted that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had advocated regarding the fiscal strain and climate vulnerabilities faced by Small Island Developing States (SIDS) during preceding global forums. Maldives, ambitiously, announced the aim to achieve net zero emissions by 2030 during the summit.

Egypt is the host nation of COP27 which will bring together parties to accelerate global climate action through emissions reduction, scaled-up adaptation efforts, and enhanced flows of appropriate finance. Many world leaders will participate in the summit, along with thousands of negotiators, government representatives, businesses, and advocates.
