STELCO takes draw for remaining unsold flats

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) on Tuesday night took draws for the remaining unsold flats from the housing units developed by them.

The flats named “Blue Rich” are built in the second phase of Hulhumale’.

A total of 32 units remain unsold. That is 16 one-room units and another 16 units which are 1+2 units.

The draw was taken for these 32 units, as well as another one-room unit that was let go by an individual who had received a social housing unit.

As per STELCO, of the employees who applied for the units, 75 were eligible for the one-room places and 235 were eligible for 1+2 units.

Furthermore, from each category, an additional 15 staff were waitlisted.

STELCO detailed that should any of the units be let go, those waitlisted will be given the opportunity.

Staff will not be charged rent on the flats until December.

The rent for a one-room apartment is MVR 5,622, while the rent for a three-room apartment (including a maid room) is within the range of MVR 10,356-10,652.

Construction of staff housing for state-owned enterprises had begun in Hulhumale' Phase II during former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration.

STELCO has 360 flats in two towers, including 72 one-room flats and 288 three-room flats.
