The family of the girl, who was found in R. Maduvvari with Alteco glue in her eyes, has said that she was attacked by a group.
The 17-year-old girl was found lying abandoned in a dark area with Alteco glue in her eyes at around 8.45pm last night.
She was treated at R. Ungoofaaru regional hospital at first, and transport to Male’ late last night.
Her family said that she can somewhat open her eyes now after her eyelashes were cut off. However as she cannot fully open her eyes, the doctors cannot ascertain the extent of damage to her eyes.
“She is lying in the hospital. We are putting drops in her eyes. She hasn’t said that she can’t see at all. She can barely open her eyes,” one of her elder brothers said.
He said that she mentioned that it was a group of people that attacked her. She was walking alone on the street, when someone came from behind and covered her eyes and mouth and took her inside an empty house. She was held down, and glue was put in her eyes. She was also hit in the head with something like a stick. She said that they did not harm her in any other way.
Her brother said that she was attacked while walking near the house of a man who fancied her. He said that the attack was probably planned.
Maduvvari Council President Hussain Shiham said that she was found lying abandoned in a dark, secluded area of the island. He said that she was unconscious and her eyes were glued together when she was taken to the hospital.
“Later when she regained consciousness she said that she was attacked by a man with long hair, and that he would have her teeth marks on his hand. But she couldn’t tell what he looked like,” Shiham said.
Police said that a 20-year-old person was been arrested last night in relation to this incident.
