Kurendhoo MP Ahmed Moosa leaves JP following yesterday

MP Ahmed Moosa has left Jumhooree Party (JP)citing his dissatisfaction over the manner in which party leader Gasim Ibrahim and members gave vote in the motion to establish secret voting for no-confidence submitted to the Parliament against the President, Vice President and Ministers.

He said that his letter informing the decision has been delivered to the party office today.

He said that he is leaving the party because of immense “pressure from his constituents” dueto the manner in which its leader and members voted in the motion to establish secret voting for no-confidence motions.

He said that he received the same “pressure” from his constituents during the first time the vote was taken, also because of the way the leader and the members voted, but chose to be patient and resisted the pressure.

He said that voting in favour of the motion along with MDP was unacceptable to his constituents and himself and thus, was forced to leave the party.

He said that JP’s vote yesterday in favour of the motion was in violation of their coalition with the government and that it is not something that can be accepted. He also said that establishing secret voting for no-confidence motions was against the spirit of transparency reflected in the constitution.

MPs of JP who voted in favour of the motion are party leader Gasim Ibrahim and Abdullah Abdul Raheem. MP Ahmed Moosa voted against the motion.
