Road Development Corporation’s (RDC) Managing Director Moosa Ali Manik (Mookey) has stated that the flooding issue in Ameenee Magu will be permanently solved at the completion of the project to redevelop the road contracted to the company by Planning Ministry.

Speaking at the ceremony held on Tuesday evening to officially commence physical works on the project – Mookey said that Ameenee Magu will be development with a stall water management system in place.

“We will permanently solve the flooding issue by installing additional pump stations on the road,” he added.

Mookey also underscored that Ameenee Magu’s pavement will be built with brail blocks for visually impaired persons – and in a manner wheelchair users can access it as well.

Noting that STELCO’s main power cables and MWSC’s main pipes were laid in Ameenee Magu, Mookey stressed on the possibility of disruption to basic services whilst carrying out redevelopment works.

However, he added that attention will be paid to carry out the work in a manner it does not pose difficulties to people using the road as many schools, houses and offices are situated in Ameenee Magu.

“There might be disruptions to basic services. In such times, we request the public for their cooperation in the important task we are carrying out,” he had said.

Speaking further, Mookey said that although the project initially sparked disagreement between involved parties, the issues have now been solved following discussions.

“We are all sitting here today after solving our differences, by doing everything possible to ensure happiness for the people from this road,” he had said.

The redevelopment of Ameenee Magu was contracted to RDC by Planning Ministry on July 3.

Under the project, valued at MVR 84.4 million, RDC will develop 7.1 kilometers of asphalt road, install a storm drain system, and install street lights.

The company is required to complete the project within 210 days.
