Caution advised over dangerous jellyfish sightings in Hulhumale’ beach

'Bluebottle jellyfish' spotted at Hulhumale' beach.

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has advised people going to Hulhumale’ beach to exercise caution over sightings of a dangerous jelly fish species from the area.

The corporation said that the ‘bluebottle jellyfish’ has been spotted in the beach area at Hulhumale’ Phase I and Hulhumale’ Phase II.

Though rarely deadly, a sting of bluebottle jellyfish can cause irritation and rashes.

Back in 2020, a significant number of a dangerous species of jellyfish was spotted in Hulhumale’ beach. The jellyfish sighted back then was the ‘blue button jelly fish’ – also rarely deadly.
