ACC: Decision not yet made on investigating Dhuvaafaru Council

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has confirmed that the authority has received a case on the alleged corruption by R. Dhuvaafaru Council revealed by the Local Government Authority (LGA).

Speaking to Sun, the media official for ACC said that while the case has been submitted, a decision has not been made on investigating. However, they were researching the issue.

A special monitoring report complied by LGA showed that over MVR 2 million went into various personal accounts of some of the council members and other employees from the council budget.

In addition to this, without any documentation, large sums of money was given in cash to employees as well.

Moreover, the report stated that Dhuvaafaru Council was not acting in accordance with any of the laws dictated by the Decentralization Act and other regulations set through it by LGA, the Finance Act of Maldives or other laws and regulations related to finances.

 It also noted that the councilors failed to keep up with their responsibilities, and proper documentation was not done as legally mandated.
