Statistics by Tourism Ministry show that Maldives has recorded over 900,000 tourist arrivals so far this year.
The statistics publicized by the Ministry on Friday show that Maldives saw a total of 1,321,932 tourist arrivals during last year, of which 572,123 tourists arrived as of July 20. The number of tourist arrivals this year as of July 20 stands at 900,808 – which is a 57.5 percent increase.
India shares the highest tourist market to the Maldives this year, having seen 132,151 arrivals from the country as of July 20. This makes up 14.7 percent of the total number of tourist arrivals. At second is United Kingdom with 104,667 arrivals – making up 11.6 percent of total arrivals. Russia takes third place with 94,151 arrivals – making up 10.5 percent of total arrivals.
At present there are 1,167 tourist facilities in operation including resorts, hotels, guesthouses and safari vessels – amounting to a total of 57,484 beds.
The average stay of a tourist in the Maldives is currently at 8.1 days.
Tourist arrivals to the Maldives was deeply impacted by the travel restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic- As tourism continues to rebound, Russia-Ukraine saw an impact on the number of arrivals. Now the third highest, Russia shared the highest tourist market to the Maldives at the start of the year.
