ADK Hospital has successfully completed the first Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) in the Maldives – which is a minimally invasive procedure, alternative to open surgery, for the repairment of abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Commenting on the milestone – ADK Hospital’s Managing Director Ahmed Afaal said that the first EVAR was undertaken by the hospital’s Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery Team on last Wednesday.

He reiterated the hospital’s commitment to introduce minimally invasive procedures using the latest technology alternative to open surgeries in order to decrease the risk to the patient.

“There is always the risk of dilated vessels bursting. In such a circumstance, internal bleeding can be fatal. This operation decreases such risks,” he added.

In the Maldives, aneurysm repairs have previously been carried out through open surgeries.
