The Herahamagu park, in G.Dh. Faresmaathoda, has been officially inaugurated on Wednesday.

A special ceremony was held, where the High Commissioner of India to Maldives Munu Mahawar and the Minister of National Planning, Housing & Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam jointly inaugurated the park.

The inauguration ceremony was followed by sports competitions and other events for the local community.

In addition to providing a common space to the island community for their gatherings and events, the park will also aid in promoting fitness and outdoor activities.

The park project is one of the 45 projects being implemented across Maldives under a grant assistance of MVR 260 million from India. A diverse range of areas such as socio-economic development including tourism, sustainable development, education, fisheries, healthcare, local infrastructure, sports & youth development, agriculture is covered under this.

Notably, more than half of these projects have been completed.

Indian grant projects in Maldives focus on creating local assets or infrastructure as per the requirements of the local communities.

While the projects are identified by the Maldivian government as per development priorities, implementation lies with the local councils or relevant ministries.
