Professor Jafar Jafari, a renowned tourism expert, arrived in Maldives on Saturday to attend the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Global Tourism Summit, set to begin in the Indian Ocean nation this week.
Jafari was welcomed upon arrival at the Velana International Airport on Saturday morning by Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom and officials from the Tourism Ministry and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).
Jafari is set to deliver a keynote address at the inaugural session of the summit.
Jafari is Professor of Hospitality and Tourism at the Department of Hospitality and Tourism in the University of Wisconsin-Stout, USA. His contributions to the academic community span international boundaries and institutions.
He is also Visiting Professor of the Universidade do Algarve in Portugal, Luleå University of Technology in Sweden, and Sun Yat-sen University in China, and has Lifetime Honorary Professorship of Bundelkhand University in India, and is the International Program Director of the Universitat de les Illes Balears in Spain.
