The Bar Council of Maldives announced the voter registration period has been extended for the election of a new executive committee.

Now, those interested can register to cast their vote until May 29th, for the Bar Council elections that will be held on June 11.

The deadline has been set for 11:59 AM on the 29th, hence the council urged those who have not registered as of now, to do so prior to that time.

The term of the first executive committee of the Bar Council, constituted under the Legal Profession Act enacted in 2019, is set to expire on July 13.

Though applications for the posts such as president and vice president were previously opened, the deadlines have now passed. As per the council, only candidates that have a  minimum of 10 years of experience as a lawyer can apply for president and vice president posts.

However, those who have a minimum of five years of experience in the legal field can apply for other positions within the executive committee.
