Islamic Ministry has begun distributing the shipment of dates donated to Maldives by the Saudi government.

The shipment of 50-tons of dates (25,000 packets) arrived in Maldives in March.

Islamic Ministry states the dates will be first distributed among the poor, at the rate of one packet per household.

The rest of the dates will be distributed on first come first served basis, also at the rate of one packet per household.

Islamic Ministry states the remaining dates will come to 26 packets per 100 households.

The distribution of dates in the greater Male’ area will be carried out by the Islamic Ministry at the Islamic Center, and the distribution of dates in the atolls will be carried out by councils.

Islamic Ministry has asked that those who come to collect the dates come with their national ID card.

Islamic Ministry has asked local councils and residents of Male’, Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’ to come to the ministry headquarters between 08:45 am and 02:00 pm on workdays.

The distribution of dates will be held until end of this month.

The Saudi government donates dates to Maldives for Ramadan each year.

However, this year’s shipment arrived in Maldives on May 6, after Ramadan ended.
