MDP

Shifag Mufeed, Fuvammulaku MP has said that MDP’s demonstration against tomorrow’s mass protest will be “very bad” and a shameful chapter in the history of the Maldives.

In an interview to Sun he said that the president’s and MDP’s intention to participate in the demonstration against this religious protest is not acceptable.

“I do not believe that any illegal actions will take place in a protest led by religious scholars. Thus I do not believe that it is wise to demonstrate against this protest,” Shifag said.

He further said that the protest is within the realms of the law and therefore it should be fully supported, even by the defence forces. He expressed concern over the fact that there is a possibility for violence, and that things can get out of hand if MDP decides to demonstrate against the protest.

“Peace means everything to us. Even from an economic point of view, no Maldivian wants to face a day without peace in our society,” Shifag said.

DRP has also criticised and condemned President Nasheed’s intention to participate in the protest, claiming that this would be against the law.
