National Museum closed due to COVID-19, to reopen on Sunday

National Center for Cultural Heritage has announced its decision to reopen the National Museum and HA. Utheemu Place (Utheemu Ganduvaru) which were closed for the public in light of the recent surge in COVID-19 infections in the Maldives.

National Museum was temporarily closed over the surge in COVID-19 cases in Male’ area, on January 18. Back then, the services provided at National Museum were suspended for two weeks.

In an announcement publicized today, National Center for Cultural Heritage said that the National Museum and Utheemu Palace will be opened for the public starting next Sunday.

National Center for Cultural Heritage further detailed that National Museum would be open between 10:00am in the morning and 4:00pm in the evening from Sunday to Thursday. The Museum will be closed on all government holidays. They further noted that tickets will be sold between 10:15pm and 3:30pm from Sunday to Thursday.

Meanwhile, National Center for Cultural Heritage said that Utheemu Palace will be open on Fridays, and all other days except government holidays from 8:00am in the morning to 2:00pm in the afternoon. Tickets will be sold between 8:15pm and 1:30pm on days the Palace is open.

The National Museum and National Library have been closed previously, over the COVID-19 situation. After long closure, they reopened on December 2, 2021.

When the National Museum was reopened, the lighting had been improved and changes were brought to the display.
