The Male’ City Council on Wednesday decided to mark its anniversary on July 3 annually.

The decision was made during the fourth session’s 41st meeting of the city council, held on Wednesday, February 23.

All members who attended the meeting voted in favour of this, revealed the city council.

The members noted that it was important to mark an annual day like all other associations in Male’.

Additionally, council members revealed that the Mayor of Male’ City made the decision to mark an anniversary due to the fact that before attaining city status, all community-related functions were undertaken by the Male’ Municipality.

When Male’ was given city status, and with the changes that followed, Male’ City Council started fulfilling the role that was previously undertaken by Male’ Municipality.

As per the council, the mayor feels it was important to mark a day that acknowledges the combination of these functions by the government to provide services to the people.

The Municipality was brought into effect during the rules of Sultan Mohamed Fareed.
