MNU: Investigating bullying case, will take action

Maldives National University (MNU) on Sunday revealed that a case of bullying amongst students in the university’s School of Medicine was under investigation.

A student from the School of Medicine has shared on social media that the student along with another student faced bullying.

The student accused that although the bullying was repeatedly brought to the attention of the Medical School’s Dean, it was not investigated, nor was any action taken.

Furthermore, the student accused that though over the past years, multiple such incidents surfaced, those bullying were protected every time.

Following this, MNU released a statement, in which it was stated that a case of bullying was reported to the university’s Vice-Chancellor Mohamed Shareef on February 17.

The statement noted that bullying was against the code of conduct for students, hence, a committee was investigating the matter, and as soon as it’s completed, details will be shared with the students.

Additionally, MNU stated that if after investigation, any action needs to be taken, the university assured it would.

Moreover, MNU urged not to spread information that could mislead the case in the media while the investigation was ongoing.

 

The student who shared about the bullying revealed that the incidents have affected their mental health, and has had negative impacts on their studies as well.
