COVID-19: Maldives record 288th fatality

Maldives on Saturday recorded the 288th COVID-19 related fatality in the country.

As per the Health Protection Agency (HPA), a 72-year-old Maldivian male admitted to the Hulhumale Medical Facility (HMF) passed away at 02:14 pm.

Notably, this marks the 11th death in the month of February alone.

Maldives is currently battling a surge in COVID-19 cases, fueled by the new and more contagious omicron variant.

In the last 24 hours alone, HPA has announced over 1,000 positive cases, with the number of active cases being well over 16,000. 

Currently, there are 41 patients seeking hospitalized care
