COVID-19: 1,096 new cases; 16,095 active cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Wednesday, announced 1,096 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 154,511.     

According to HPA, the 1,096 new cases include; 338 cases from the greater Male’ region, 549 cases from residential islands outside Male’ and 77 cases from operational resorts.

Meanwhile, 1,368 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 138,117.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 16,095 active cases.      

There are 60 patients in hospitals.      

4,320 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours, including 1,767 samples from the greater Male' region. The positivity rate in the greater Male’ area is at 19 percent.

Maldives has recorded 285 COVID-19 deaths. 

Maldives began its vaccination campaign in February. The country expanded the campaign to begin vaccinating children between 12 years and 17 years of age in August, and began administering booster doses in October. 

As of present, 397,851 people have received their first dose and 370,311 people have been fully vaccinated, and 99,014 have received their booster dose.
