President Solih, Parliament Speaker Nasheed head to Komandoo for by-election campaign

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has headed to Sh. Komandoo.

The purpose of the visit is to campaign for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate who is contesting in Komandoo parliamentary seat by-election.

Komandoo Council President Mohamed Sinaan told Sun that President Solih and Speaker Nasheed are scheduled to address Komandoo residents during the trip.

President Solih and Speaker Nasheed had scheduled to visit Komandoo together on February 23. However, President Solih has foregone the trip after testing positive for COVID-19.

The Komandoo parliamentary seat was left vacant following the death of MP Hussain Waheed on December 14, 2021. He died at the age of 53 years in a hospital in Male’ City after a year-long battle with cancer.

Elections Commission announced that they will be holding by-elections for the Komandoo parliamentary seat on February 5, 2022.

Ruling party, MDP's candidate for the Komandoo by-election is Mohamed Raashid. Opposition PPM’s candidate is Moosa Fathuhy Adam. MNP’s candidate is Abdul Hannan Idrees.
