COVID-19 patient admitted at HMF passes away, death toll rises to 266

A COVID-19 patient admitted at the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility (HMF) has passed away.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has confirmed the identity of the latest COVID-19 fatality as 63-year-old Maldivian woman. She passed away at 6:16am this morning.

Her death increases the number of COVID-19 fatalities in the Maldives to 266.

The last COVID-19 death recorded in the Maldives prior to this was on January 14; a 34-year-old Bangladeshi man who was declared dead-on-arrival at S. Feydhoo Health Centre.

As the COVID-19 situation in the Maldives continues to worsen – HPA announced 2,137 additional cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 108,732.     

The new cases include; 1,219 cases from the greater Male’ region, 547 cases from residential islands outside Male’, 89 cases from operational resorts, and 4 cases from liveaboards. 

Meanwhile, 642 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 98,880.    

With the new developments, Maldives now has 9,574 active cases.      

There are 43 patients in hospitals.
