34-year-old Bangladeshi dies of COVID-19, death toll rises to 265

A 34-year-old Bangladesh man has died from COVID-19, in the Maldives.

Health Protection Agency (HPA) said that the 34-year-old Bangladeshi man was declared dead-on-arrival at S. Feydhoo Health Centre.

His death increases the number of COVID-19 fatalities in the Maldives to 265.

The last COVID-19 death recorded in the Maldives prior to this was on January 6; a 79-year-old Maldivian man who was brought to IGMH ER that was declared dead-on-arrival, with his death being Covid-related.

Whilst a COVID-19 death has been recorded today, the number of daily positive cases is currently on the rise – with 816 individuals testing positive within the last 24-hours.

According to HPA, the 816 new cases include; 413 cases from the greater Male’ region, 249 cases from residential islands outside Male’, 92 cases from operational resorts and 15 cases from liveaboards.

Meanwhile, 354 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 95,056.    

With these new developments, Maldives now has 5,118 active cases.

There are 25 patients in hospitals.
