EPA fines Maafushivaru developers

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Wednesday fined Paradise Resort Development & Management Pvt Ltd, the company that developed a resort in Adh. Maafushivaru by MVR 402,500.

As per EPA, the company had worked against the permit granted to them by the authority and went against the regulations of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology.

Paradise Resort Development & Management Pvt Ltd was asked to pay the fine within a month.

However, the statement released by EPA did not disclose any details of the activities carried out in Maafushivaru that lead to them being fined.

Maafushivaru, located in the southern tip of Ari Atoll is only a 25-minute seaplane ride from Velana International Airport (VIA). The resort was reopened in 2020, after being closed for renovations.
