Highest number of tourist arrivals since border reopening recorded on December 18

Tourism Ministry has stated that Maldives’ recorded the highest number of tourist arrivals on a single day since the border reopening in July of last year, on Saturday, December 18.

Noting that a total of 6,955 tourist arrivals were recorded on Saturday – the Tourism Ministry said that this effectively breaks the earlier record of 6,292 set on December 5.

Tourism Ministry, on last Friday, also announced that Maldives has surpassed 10.7 million bed nights so far this year, surpassing the record the country set in 2019. The Ministry forecasted that Maldives will reach 11 million bed nights by the end of this year.

The announcement by the Tourism Ministry came a day after Maldives was crowned ‘World’s Leading Destination' at World Travel Awards – the most prestigious honors program in global travel – for the second consecutive year.

Statistics publicized by the Tourism Ministry on Friday show that over 1.2 million tourist arrivals have been recorded so far this year; with 74,498 tourists arriving in December alone.
