Former Gender Minister Zenysha Shaheed Zaki has stated that she has not committed any criminal offense or taken part in criminal activity.

In a signed statement released by Zenysha – she said that the case against her by the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) is birthed out of a personal agenda against her. She also added that the case is build up on an erroneous basis and described it as an act of abuse of power.

Zenysha also gave assurance that it can be proven beyond reasonable doubt with god’s will that the case against her is built in defiance of the legal procedure.

The statement issued by Zenysha is to refute false reports made by local media outlets subsequent to HRCM requesting the Prosecutor General’s Office to file criminal charges against then-Gender Minister Zenysha and Head of Police Family and Child Protection Unit Chief Superintendent Mohamed Basheer amongst other Gender Ministry officials and police officers in connection to an incident which took place at Kudakudhinge Hiyaa during former President Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s administration.

Zenysha also noted in her statement that her lawyers – Premier Chambers LLP – will be communicating on behalf of her regarding the case from this point on.
