Three-month infant’s death in Thinadhoo declared not a COVID-19 fatality

The death of the three-month-old infant in GDh. Thinadhoo reported earlier today – has been declared non-related to COVID-19.

Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital’s Senor Customer Relations Officer Salim Ali said that the declaration was made after a review of the death.

“After reviewing the additional matters pertaining to this case – it has now been declared not a COVID-19 fatality,” he had said.

Prior to this, Salim had told Sun that the three-month-old infant, identified as a male, was brought to the Thinadhoo Covid Management Facility at approximately 05:00 am on Monday. He further detailed that the little boy had tested positive for COVID-19 on October 4, and there were other members of his family who had also tested positive. 

With the boy’s death declared not a COVID-19 fatality, Maldives’ COVID-19 death toll now stands at 238.

The last COVID-19 death was recorded on Sunday – an 80-year-old Maldivian man who was being treated at Hulhumale’ Medical Facility.  

Maldives has confirmed 86,165 COVID-19 cases, including 77 new cases recorded on Sunday. 84,627 patients have since recovered.   

The country currently has 1,287 active cases. 12 of the patients are hospitalized.
