COVID-19: Three-month infant dies in Thinadhoo

Maldives recorded its youngest COVID-19 fatality on Monday, with the death of a three-month-old infant in GDh. Thinadhoo. 

Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital’s senior customer relations officer Salim Ali identified the deceased to Sun as a male infant brought to the Thinadhoo Covid Management Facility at approximately 05:00 am Monday. 

Salim said the infant tested positive for COVID-19 on October 4, and there are other members of his family who have also tested positive. 

The latest fatality, the eighth in October alone, increased the COVID-19 death toll in Maldives to 239. 

Maldives has confirmed 86,165 COVID-19 cases, including 77 new cases recorded on Sunday. 84,627 patients have since recovered.   

The country currently has 1,287 active cases. 12 of the patients are hospitalized.
