Patient admitted at Thinadhoo Covid Facility passes away, death toll rises to 235

A COVID-19 patient from GA. Gemanafushi who was being treated after admittance at GDh. Thinathoo Covid Management Facility has passed away.

Gemanafushi Council President Ibrahim Nashid said that the patient in question was transferred to Thinadhoo Covid Management Facility for further treatment a week ago. He further noted that the patient was being treated on ventilator at the time of death.

Nashid also confirmed the identity of the latest COVID-19 fatality as an elderly man who was above the age of 80.

His death increases the number of COVID-19 fatalities in the Maldives to 235. It is the first COVID-19 related death recorded from Gemanafushi.

The death of a COVID-19 patient from Gemanafushi comes at a time active cases on the island has surged to 67. A total of 243 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 from the island as of present.

As per the latest statistics by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 74 additional cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24-hours – increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 85,622. 

According to HPA, the 74 new cases include; 21 cases from the greater Male’ region, 49 cases from residential islands outside Male’, and 4 cases from operational resorts. 

Meanwhile, 106 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 84,170.    

With the new developments, Maldives currently has 1,205 active cases.      

There are 12 patients in hospitals.
