Maldives’ COVID-19 death toll rises to 232

Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced on Monday that a COVID-19 patient at the Hulhumale’ Medical Facility has passed away.

HPA identified the latest fatality as a 54-year-old Maldivian male.

He passed away at 02:40 am this Monday.

His funeral prayer was held at 08:00 am at the Hulhumale’ Cemetery.

“This is the 232nd COVID-19 death in the Maldives,” said HPA.

The latest fatality comes after an 80-year-old Maldivian male at Sh. Atoll Covid Management Facility in Sh. Funadhoo passed away on September 25 – the fifth death last September.

Maldives has 85,042 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 71 new cases recorded on Sunday. 83,293 patients have since recovered.

The country currently has 1,505 active cases. 18 of the patients are hospitalized.
