Considering the bad weather and heavy rain experienced by the Maldives currently, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has requested all travellers to take precautionary measures, and to avoid travel by sea unless absolutely necessary.
A media official of MNDF advised travellers to depend on the latest meteorological data before setting out for their journey, and to be extra careful about weather when travelling at night.
He advised cargo supplier not to overload their vessels, and all vessels to keep life jackets, water, food supplies, and a water pump available on-board.
He urged all vessels, including those that are anchored or undertaking journey, to check communication radio sets, and to adhere to all maritime safety regulations.
Currently, bad weather is experienced all over the country. Heavy rains have left several islands flooded, and houses and household items damaged. Travel has also been adversely affected. MET Office has said that heavy rains will be experienced over the country for the next 48 hours.
