President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has departed to Hoarafushi, to understand the damage caused by flooding and heavy rains in the island.
Nonstop heavy rain has left Hoarafushi flooded. The island council informed that the floods have damaged 95 houses, and displaced about 600 island citizens.
The President has also decided to send two special envoys to some islands in the north and south of Maldives which are affected by rain.
The envoy appointed for southern islands is Advisor at the President’s Office, Ibrahim Luthfee; and the envoy appointed for northern islands is Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Mohamed Saleem.
During the visit, both envoys will inquire about the current situation of the islands and gather information on the people’s immediate requirements.
