Fayyaz: Strides made in solving issue of undocumented migrants, no reason to resign anymore

Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail has stated that strides have been made in addressing the issue of undocumented migrants – adding that he believed there to be no reason to tender his resignation.

Prior to the undocumented migrants’ regularization program – Minster Fayyaz had stated that he would resign from his post had the issue of undocumented migrants continue unsolved.

Minster Fayyaz was questioned regarding the matter of undocumented migrants during today’s Parliament session.

Responding to a question raised by Maduvvari MP Adam Shareef, Minster Fayyaz stated that when the current administration began governing – the people had been extremely concerned over the issue of undocumented migrants as well the previous administration’s handling of the matter.

He also added that he had stated that he would resign from his post – to guarantee that effort will be put on to solve the issue.

“This is how I had given assurance to the people that this matter will be solved. By saying that I would resign, if otherwise. As I believe, a lot of strides have been made to an extent acceptable to me – within these two and a half years, even in consideration of the COVID-19 pandemic,” he had said.

Speaking further, Minister Fayyaz added that the strides which have been made to address the issue of undocumented migrants will be evident through statistics – noting that the strides made up until now are acceptable and applauded by the people.

Solving the issue of undocumented migrants living in the country is one of the electoral pledges of the current administration.
