Government to provide soft loans for housing

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that the government has made the decision to provide soft loans to people for construction of houses.

The President said this while addressing the people of Dh. Kudahuvadhoo yesterday.

He said that the issue will be sent to Parliament for approval soon.

The President said that several land plots leased out to people remain without any buildings in several islands, and that building flats on these land plots would not be a solution.

“Several youth have obtained land tenures. But they are not able to build houses for long periods of time. The solution to this is not sudden construction of a bunch of flats. That’s not the solution. The real solution is to find ways for people to live, and to help them build houses,” he said.
