GDh. Gadhdhoo has been placed under monitoring mechanisms subsequent to COVID-19 cases being detected on the island.

Confirming that the island has been placed under monitoring mechanism, the Manager of Gadhdhoo Health Centre Fathimath Moosa had told Sun that the island was placed under monitoring after samples taken from the island on August 21 and also afterward – has come back positive.

“A sample taken of August 21 had come back positive. Then we did contact tracing and took additional samples from direct contacts. 11 samples were taken within the next two days – from which seven had come back positive,” she had said.

Fathimath further detailed that as the island has been placed under monitoring mechanisms – authorities have begun enforcing restrictive measures.

In this regard, the harbor area of the island is under surveillance and shops have been asked to switch to delivery services.

Mass contact tracing has also begun on the island.

This is the second time Gadhdhoo has been placed under monitoring mechanisms.
