Meedhoo land reclamation project will commence next year: President

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that the land reclamation project for Dh. Meedhoo will commence next year.

The President made this remark while addressing the people of Meedhoo as part of his current visit to Meedhoo.

“If we all work together, there is nothing we can’t achieve in our country. Land can be reclaimed for this island. I request Dr Muizz to commence this project as soon as possible,” the President said.

The President said that the government will not discriminate based on ‘colour’ when deciding on development projects for islands.

At the function, Meedhoo MP Ahmed Shiyam also assured that the land reclamation project for Meedhoo will commence next year.

Shiyam said that it is the wish of the people of Meedhoo to establish a boat yard in the island, and said that this will be done subsequent to the land reclamation project.

The President was greeted with a warm welcome, as well as protested against by some groups, as he arrived in Meedhoo yesterday afternoon.

The President is accompanied by Meedhoo MP Ahmed Shiyam, Kudahuvadhoo MP Ahmed Amir and Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb.

The President will visit the islands of Dh. Maaen’boodhoo and Dh. Kudahuvadhoo today.
