President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has said that the Maldives does not need different colours, and that the important thing for the country right now is national unity.
The President made this remark while addressing the citizens of Dh. Meedhoo yesterday, as part of his current visit to Faafu and Dhaalu atolls.
“The government will not discriminate. What the country needs today is not different colours, it needs everyone to work together under our national flag,” he said.
The President said that in spite of the country stabilizing, there is still a group of people trying to portray to the global community that the country is under domestic conflict. He said that they are driven by their worry of the Maldivian economy flourishing, and the people living better lives.
Noting that everything in the Maldives is now going on smoothly, the President said that the global community now knows the truth about our country.
Referring to the current financial difficulties faced by the country, the Presidents said that his government will not sell off state property or the islands to foreigners, to balance the budget.
The President also visited Dh. Bandidhoo yesterday, and while addressing the people of Bandidhoo, he said that without peace and unity among the people, the country cannot achieve development.
