Office of Ombudsperson for Transitional Justice receives over 30 housing complaints

Abdul Salaam Arif: He was appointed Chief Ombudsperson to the Office of Ombudsperson for Transitional Justice on January 15, 2021.

Office of the Ombudsperson for Transitional Justice has announced it received over 30 cases related to housing in one month.

The office said total 59 cases were submitted to the office between June13-July 13, including cases alleging arbitrary arrests and cases related to the right to own property.

After cases related to housing, the second highest number of cases were related to violation of labor rights. 20.34 percent of the cases submitted during the period were related to labor rights violations.

The office also received cases involving violation of freedom of expression.

The Office of the Ombudsperson for Transitional Justice was established on December 17 last year under the Transitional Justice Act.

The President appointed a chief ombudsperson and two ombudspersons to the office on January 15.

The Office of the Ombudsperson for Transitional Justice is an autonomous legal identity vested with powers to communicate, file a lawsuit or receive court charges relating to circumstances addressed through the Transitional Justice Act – systemic violations of rights by state institutions.
