President Waheed is the most capable head for coalition government: Dr Hassan Saeed

President of Qaumee Party and Advisor to the President, Dr Hassan Saeed has said that President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik is the most capable person to act as head of a coalition government.

Speaking on DhiTV last night, Dr Hassan Saeed said that it is not likely that any party will be successful in the upcoming presidential election without forming coalitions.

He said that President Waheed has shown success during his presidency so far, and highlighted that the President spent most of his energy fighting pressure, such as efforts to destroy the economy and peace and order in the country.

“The past eight months have been tough for the coalition. The President’s party was not represented in the Cabinet. It was an extraordinary coalition. The coalition includes people who will compete with him in the next presidential election,” he said.

Dr Hassan Saeed came third in the first round of voting at the last presidential elections. He also acted as Attorney General and Political Advisor in the administrations of former Presidents Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Mohamed Nasheed respectively.

Dr Hassan Saeed said that President Waheed’s success in proving to the world that his government is legitimate, when a group of people were relentlessly trying to prove otherwise, shows that he is competent and the right man for the job.

He pointed out that while former President Nasheed’s coalition lasted only 21 days, President Waheed’s coalition has already lasted eight months.

Dr Hassan Saeed said that President Waheed has shown the people of Maldives that he has the experience, and is capable of managing a coalition.
