Criminal Court has urged the State to take strict action against the witnesses presented by the State, whose testimonies in Court today differed from their investigation statements.
At today’s trial session pertaining to the murder of Ali Shifan of M. Fairy Corner, the Judge said that strict action should be taken against the witnesses in order to avoid similar occurrences in the future.
Those witnesses whose testimonies in Court differed from their investigation statements said in Court today that they witnessed Shifan being stabbed, but none of the six suspects detained by the State were involved in the stabbing.
The defendants’ lawyer requested the Court to release them as no testimony had been obtained against them.
The State Prosecutor objected to this, and moreover requested to return to Police custody an additional suspect, Mohamed Mishan Abdul Haadhee of M. Silver Nest, who had been released.
The Judge presiding over the case said that the lack of evidence is not a reason to believe that the suspects are not a threat to society. The Judge ordered to keep Mishan Abdul Haadhee and the rest of the suspects in detention until the end of the trial process.
