No applications received for 44 Council Women

Local Government Authority (LGA) has said that no applications have been received before the deadline for Women’s Committees of 44 Councils.

LGA has received 1319 application forms for the Women’s Committee Election scheduled for 7 November.

Lots were drawn on 18 October to arrange the names of the candidates. LGA has not disclosed the 44 Councils for which no applications were received.

LGA Board Member Ahmed Faisal said that a new deadline for those Councils will be announced later, but the Election will be held as previously scheduled.

LGA said that voting will be held for the 102 Island Councils for which more applications were received than the number of Committee members required.

Elections will be held for five electorates of Male’ City Council and two electorates of Addu City Council.

The number of Councils for which the number of applications received match the number of Committee members required is 23, which include four electorates of Addu City and six electorates of Male’ City.

A total of 159 Councils should have five members, 26 Councils should have seven members, and three Councils should have nine members.
