A seven-year-old child who was connected with a ventilator for treatment after contracting COVID-19 has recovered enough to be disconnected from the ventilator.

IGMH Pediatrician Dr. Ahmed Faisal has confirmed that the child had now been disconnected from the ventilator. Dr. Faisal was speaking in a press conference of the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC)  when he stated that some types of variants of COVID-19 were known to be more dangerous for pregnant women and children.

Dr. Faisal said that a child who was connected with a ventilator after medical conditions deteriorated had now been disconnected after progress towards recovery.

"A child who required hospitalization and needed to be connected with a ventilator has been taken from the ventilator. God willing, we will even be able to release the child," said Dr. Faisal.

HEOC officials have previously said that the child had kidney health issues.

Previously, a ten-year-old had passed away in the Maldives due to COVID-19. That was the youngest death recorded in the Maldives due to the virus.

Around 52 children aged below ten are tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives on average as of recently.
