GMR registers company to run duty free shops at airport

GMR, the Indian company which manages Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, has registered a company with the Ministry of Trade to run duty-free shops at the Airport.

In response to a letter sent by Sun to The Ministry of Trade to obtain more information about the company “GMR Male’ Retail Private Limited” registered on 7 December, Registrar Ali Shujau said that the purpose of this company is to run duty-free shops at the Ibrahim Nasir International Airport.

The company is owned by GMR Male’ International Airport and an individual by the name of Lakshmi Narayaanan.

When contacted about more information on this company, their Media Official Mr Maheeka said yesterday that since it is a registered company, more information can be obtained by contacting the relevant authorities.

While a new company is being registered by GMR, they have notified the current operators of duty-free shops at the Airport to close down their businesses.
