Man arrested for sex with minor in Kulhudhuffushi guesthouse

A suspect has been arrested for “carrying out a sexual act with a minor” in a guesthouse in Kulhudhuffushi City.

Police identified the suspect as a 43-year-old Maldivian male.

He was arrested on Sunday night.

The case is under investigation by the police.

The man was handed over to the police by a mob of angry Kulhudhuffushi residents, who allege the victim was groomed before she was taken to the guesthouse.  They also said the suspect is a Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) officer.

MNDF has yet to issue a statement in response to the case.
