20 percent of the Maldives' eligible population fully vaccinated against COVID-19

Around 20 percent of the entire eligible population of the Maldives have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, Health Ministry State Minister Dr. Shah Mahir has announced. 

In the ceremony held today to launch the "I am vaccinated" tourism industry targeted campaign, Minister Dr. Mahir said that the Maldivian vaccine campaign was running well when compared with other nations. 

The Minister said that 65 percent of the entire eligible population had received their first dose of the vaccine since the nation-wide campaign was commenced on February 1 and that 20 percent had received their second dose as well. 

"In reality, we can gain safety from the disease by gaining her immunity and strengthening it. We will be safe from the virus when more and more of us receive vaccines," said Dr. Mahir. before advising everyone to get vaccinated. 

He especially called on those eligible to receive their second dose to do so. 

Minister Dr. Shah added that the nation will have to live with the virus in the future along with safety measures. The Minister also noted the importance of keeping track of the global trends in the spread of the virus when operating the tourism industry.
